In September, the partners of the Just Future Alliance came together in The Hague for their annual planning event. We took this opportunity to learn about their achievements over the past years and why this programme is vital for strengthening civil society in their countries.
Around the world, spaces for independent civic action are shrinking, leaving civil society organisations increasingly vulnerable. As a result, the voices of the most marginalised communities are often absent from decisions made by justice and governance institutions and global policy discussions that shape priorities and allocate resources.
Empowering Civil Society
To confront these challenges, Just Future was launched in 2021, with Cordaid as the lead organisation. The programme aims to empower civil society to advocate for people’s rights, hold those in power accountable, and ensure that everyone has a say in decisions affecting their lives.
Through partnerships with local and international civil society organisations, the programme amplifies the voices of women, young people, and those affected by conflict, helping them advocate for their needs and priorities.

Supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Just Future is a five-year initiative implemented in six countries: Afghanistan, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, Niger, and South Sudan.
