Kees Zevenbergen, CEO of Cordaid, will leave the organisation as of July 1, 2023. After more than six years heading the organisation, he believes the time has come to hand over the baton. “It has been a

In the words of Kees Zevenbergen: “As I look back with gratitude, my journey with Cordaid has been a fulfilling one, full of experiences and learnings. In 2016, at that time in the sixth year of my service as a member of Cordaid’s Supervisory Board, I was invited by the Cordaid chair at the time, Ernst Hirsch Ballin, to take over the leadership of the organisation. Until then I always considered myself a ‘free agent working for the greater good’. The fact that I ended up being CEO of Cordaid for much longer than originally planned shows that the work and the people of this beautiful organisation deserved long-term commitment. I really enjoyed it. They were beautiful, and intensive years”, says Zevenbergen.
Zevenbergen guided Cordaid through several change processes as CEO. What stood out for him is the merger with ICCO, the Protestant equivalent of the Catholic Cordaid. A logical step for Zevenbergen: “our work is inspired by the same Christian values and our missions were virtually identical”. Thanks to the merger, Cordaid can achieve even more impact, while increasingly making room for the voice of partner organisations. Zevenbergen is proud of what Cordaid has achieved in recent years and that Cordaid remained a double-mandated organisation, where humanitarian aid and development go hand in hand, alongside increased ownership of local organisations.
Handover
In the coming months, Kees Zevenbergen will work on his transfer together with fellow board members. Ton Heerts, chair of the Supervisory Board of Cordaid: “We are extremely grateful to Kees Zevenbergen for the extensive work he has done in recent years. In collaboration with his colleagues as well as national and international partners, he managed to secure Cordaid with a solid foundation to build further on. We wish Kees all the best as a ‘free agent’ and I have no doubt that he will continue working for the ‘greater good’”.
The Supervisory Board will soon start the recruitment process for a new CEO, who is expected to start on July 1, 2023.

Kees Zevenbergen quitte son poste de directeur de Cordaid
Kees Zevenbergen, directeur général de Cordaid, quittera l’organisation le 1er juillet 2023. Après plus de six ans à la tête de l’organisation, il estime que le moment est venu de passer le relais. “Ce fut un parcours enrichissant”.
Pour reprendre les mots de Kees Zevenbergen: “Je regarde en arrière avec gratitude, mon parcours avec Cordaid a été épanouissant, plein d’expériences et d’apprentissages. En 2016, dans la sixième année de mon service en tant que membre du conseil de surveillance de Cordaid, j’ai été invité par le président de Cordaid de l’époque, Ernst Hirsch Ballin, à prendre la tête de l’organisation. Jusque-là, je me considérais comme un ‘acteur libre travaillant pour le bien de tous‘. Le fait que je sois resté Directeur Général de Cordaid bien plus longtemps que prévu montre que le travail et les personnes de cette belle organisation méritaient un engagement de long terme. J’ai vraiment apprécié cette expérience. Ce furent des années magnifiques et intenses”, déclare Zevenbergen.
En tant que Directeur Général, Zevenbergen a guidé Cordaid à travers plusieurs processus de changement. Ce qui l’a le plus marqué, c’est la fusion avec ICCO, l’équivalent protestant de l’organisation Catholique Cordaid. Une étape logique pour Zevenbergen: “Notre travail est inspiré par les mêmes valeurs chrétiennes et nos missions étaient pratiquement identiques”.
Grâce à cette fusion, Cordaid peut avoir encore plus d’impact, tout en laissant de plus en plus de place à la voix des organisations partenaires. Zevenbergen est fier de ce que Cordaid a accompli ces dernières années et du fait que Cordaid soit restée une organisation à double mandat, où l’aide humanitaire et le développement vont de pair, ainsi qu’une appropriation accrue des organisations locales.
Passage de relais
Dans les mois à venir, Kees Zevenbergen travaillera à son passage de témoin avec les autres membres du conseil d’administration. Ton Heerts, président du conseil de surveillance de Cordaid: “Nous sommes extrêmement reconnaissants à Kees Zevenbergen pour le travail considérable qu’il a accompli ces dernières années. En collaboration avec ses collègues ainsi qu’avec des partenaires nationaux et internationaux, il a réussi à donner à Cordaid une base solide pour continuer à se développer. Nous souhaitons à Kees tout le succès possible en tant qu’‘acteur libre’ et je ne doute pas qu’il continuera à travailler pour le ‘bien commun’”.
Le conseil de surveillance entamera bientôt le processus de recrutement d’un nouveau directeur général, qui devrait commencer à travailler à partir du 1er juillet 2023.
